Clone vs. Delete
Within the Goal Design Tab, User has the option to Clone or Duplicate a Result, Habit or Topic. This article focuses on sharing the logic on how the two features function, so that you can make an optimal design choice.
Here is the dig on Clone:
- Close to create an exact copy of the item (Result, Habit, Topic)
- When you clone as item, all related items will also get cloned, which makes it much easier from a reporting perspective. For example, when a Result is cloned, all Habits and Topics connected to it will also get cloned and stay linked to the cloned Result.
- Also, editing one Clone will reflect the same change in all the Cloned items
- Keep in mind that deleting one will delete all linked items of the cloned item See image towards the bottom of this page to read more about deleting a clone choices.
- Additionally, when a new topic is added to one of the cloned items, it will also get automatically added to the other cloned item.
Here is the dig on Duplicate:
- Use duplicate if you do not wish to carry all associated sub-items with the item. For example, if you are duplicating a Habit and do not want the related Topics to get linked to it, use the Duplicate option.
- If you edit a Duplicated item, the editing does not affect the other one. When you clone an item and then edit one of them, all other cloned items get edited as well.
