Team Roles to Get a Program Launched

The Team

*Note: these roles can all be played by the same person or each role could be played by multiple people.

Stakeholders:

This role is fulfilled by someone who has a stake in the success of this program from an organizational level. This person often has authority over budgets for prizing, has visibility and can express program level results.

IT Approval:

This person will give you the thumbs-up that the app can be downloaded to user devices and will consider with you how users can visit proprietary sites through the “Learn More” button, if required.  Like content approvals, you do NOT want to leave this approval to anywhere near launch of your Program.  Get them on task right away as IT approvals can take time.

Single Point of Contact (SPOC):

The single point of contact coordinates with the external and internal team. This person is responsible for ensuring all roles are fulfilling their assigned obligations and communicating information between members.

Content Approval:

Make sure this person is ready to review and turn around notes and approvals efficiently.  Do not wait until you need this person’s review or you are likely to delay your launch.  Make sure you are on their calendar with enough lead time to get those approvals and get launched as scheduled.

Subject Matter Expert (SME):

This person(s) will be instrumental in the Goal Design process and in reviewing drafted Qs to ensure they accurately represent the subject matter.  This person may also be the writer of Qs, but may also be a reviewer to another writer’s work.

Learning Designer:

This person(s) will become familiar with best practices in writing Qs, the keys to writing the most impactful Qs, and also the most effective way to format previously created learning material so it can appear in new Qs and Learn More items.  This person(s) may or may not be subject-matter experts – however, if they are NOT a SME, it is necessary to partner with a SME to review material before launch.

Graphic Designer:

This person(s) develops images for the Qs and for anywhere else they are used in the course of a Series of Challenges – e.g., Install Site, Learn More items, custom-created Awards or Badges, Disclosures.  This can be done by an experienced visual designer, or someone with no experience can use our Image Templates in Canva (see FAQ article of this title).

Engagement Manager (EM):

Do not underestimate the importance of this role!  This is the person who will drive enrollment and keep users going from Challenge to Challenge in your Series. This person should be a voice that people listen to and respect.  It could be a high-ranking executive, or it could be an entry-level admin;  every environment is different.  This person will cheer on the users, let them know who is winning, who is improving, what is new, what is coming up, and what users can do to excel!  Always keeping the experience fresh.
