Obstacles in Short Form Questions

Obstacles:

The Obstacle is the mental roadblock Participants have to taking the Action.

Examples of Obstacles
  • I don't have time
  • I'm too busy
  • This doesn't apply to me
  • I know a better way
  • This is not my job
  • This will take too much time
  • I don't see the value in this
  • I already know how to do this
  • I'm too far behind 

How do Participants get past the Obstacle?

The Participant's mental Obstacle is what stands in the way of taking the Action. Speak directly to the Obstacle in order to help the Participant overcome it.
Write the Insight by acknowledging the Obstacle first. This way, the Participant feels understood, and they become more open to learn. 
Examples of getting past the Obstacle and encouraging Action

  • "Combining actions and songs to teach is one of the most powerful ways for children to learn. Add some motion to your songs, even if it takes you out of your comfort zone. For example..."
  • "Response 101: If your device acts strangely, disconnect from the network to immediately isolate it. Notify your security management, they are on your side! Be open about exactly what you saw and did. Here's why..."
